A Weekend to Remember: October 28 & 29

The Día de Los Muertos Weekend Mercado showcased the talent of local artisans and the spirit of our community. From stunning handcrafted art to delicious cuisine, families, friends, and visitors immersed themselves in the rich tapestry of Mexican culture. Live music and entertainment filled the air, creating an atmosphere of celebration and togetherness.

Exploring the Historic Park

Throughout the weekend, the Old Town San Diego State Historic Park came alive with altares de muertos, hands-on activities, sugar skull painting workshops, and vibrant chalk art created by San Diego artists. The Community Altar in the Plaza de Armas provided a touching opportunity for visitors to honor their loved ones.

A Special Screening of “Coco”

On Saturday evening, the Plaza de Armas transformed into an open-air cinema, offering a free community screening of Disney Pixar’s beloved film “Coco.” Families and friends gathered under the stars, sharing a heartwarming cinematic experience that perfectly captured the essence of Día de Los Muertos.

The Día de Los Muertos celebration in Old Town San Diego has been nothing short of spectacular, and the grand finale is yet to come. On Thursday, November 2, at sundown, the Candlelit Procession will commence in front of the Immaculate Conception Church. This cherished tradition, which draws thousands of participants, will wind its way through the historic streets, honoring the memory of loved ones.
