This fall, Old Town San Diego invites you to celebrate Día de Los Muertos and honor the lives and legacies of the community’s historic families. From October 5th through November 3rd, 2024, visitors can take part in a captivating 45-minute guided tour through the park, featuring stunning altares de muertos (altars of the dead) that commemorate some of Old Town’s most significant past citizens.

Each altar tells the story of one of the community’s early families, celebrating their contributions while paying homage to their memory. Practical Information
The Altar Tour is offered by California State Parks and is free of charge, providing a great opportunity to experience Old Town’s heritage and the traditions of Día de Los Muertos.
- Tour Schedule: The tours are available Tuesday through Saturday in October, beginning at 11 a.m.
- Location: Tours depart from the Robinson Rose Visitor Center, a key landmark in Old Town.
- Sign-Up Process: Due to limited space (only 18 participants per tour), sign-ups are done in person on the day of the tour. Make sure to arrive early to secure your spot!
- Accessibility: While service animals are welcome, please note that pets are not allowed inside the museums.
