Marvel at the Sherman-Gilbert House, built in 1887 and first owned by John Sherman, cousin of General William Tecumseh Sherman, which features a captivating “widow’s walk” and circular window. Don’t miss the Christian House, built in 1889, or the Bushyhead House, constructed by an early San Diego sheriff, chief of police, and newspaper owner who was part Cherokee Indian and marched in the “Trail of Tears” during the displacement of Southeastern tribes in 1838-39.
Discover the McConaughy House, named for its founder who established the first scheduled passenger and freight service in San Diego County, and the Burton House, built by a retired Army physician during a trend that aimed to eliminate decoration.
